Nike Metcon 6 Free

The gym shoe. Flat enough to lift seriously, grippy enough for everything else.

The Metcon exists for one purpose: gym floors. The cushioned foam in running shoes that makes them comfortable for distance creates instability when you're under a loaded bar. The Metcon's flat, firm heel addresses this — your foot is closer to the ground, the base is stable, the lift is more honest. It's a meaningful difference once you've experienced it.

I use them for compound movements and circuit work — squats, deadlifts, box jumps, rope climbs. The outsole handles all of it. The heel clip keeps things stable when you're driving through the ground, which matters on heavy days.

They're not comfortable for extended walking. That's by design and it's fine — I wear them in, train, wear them out. Understanding the intended use makes them exactly right for the job they exist to do.

The Free plate in the forefoot adds flexibility for dynamic movements. It's a noticeable design choice compared to older Metcons and the transition between lifting stability and dynamic movement is smoother because of it. A detail worth knowing before you buy.
