Philips Hue Iris

Ambient glow for the bedroom. The gradient light makes a room feel completely different at night.

The Iris was a deliberate bedroom addition after noticing how much the Hue Go was improving the workspace. The bedroom needed something that could do the opposite — bring the energy down rather than up, and give the room a different character at night than during the day.

It sits on the bedside table and runs through a wind-down automation: starts at a soft amber around 9pm, dims further at 10pm, turns off at 11. I barely interact with it manually now, which is the sign of a well-configured automation — it just works in the background.

The design is more refined than the Go. The gradient lens creates a softer, more diffused glow — less spotlight, more ambient wash that fills the wall behind it. The colour rendering through the warmer range is impressive for a lamp this size, and the build quality feels deliberate.

The Gradient light effects are the differentiating feature. A coral-to-amber gradient cycling slowly makes the room feel like early evening regardless of what's happening outside. It's an aesthetic choice that takes some time to set up but the result is worth it.
