Philips Hue Go

The portable lamp that lives on my desk and makes late-night sessions feel less clinical.

The Hue Go came in as a desk companion and never left. I use it as a secondary light source when the overhead is too harsh — a warm fill that makes 9pm working sessions feel like a choice rather than an obligation. It changes the room's character in a way that a simple lamp doesn't.

The portable aspect was a selling point I didn't expect to use. I move it constantly — beside the laptop while working, shifted to the side during video calls, carried to the kitchen bench when cooking. The battery is enough for casual use without constant charging.

Pairing it with automations in the Hue app is where it gets genuinely useful. A "Focus" scene tied to a cooler white sits alongside a "Wind down" scene that shifts warm at 9pm. The difference in how the room feels at those transitions is real enough that I stopped manually adjusting it.

One honest gripe: the button on the base for manual control is awkward and I almost never use it. Everything goes through the app or Home shortcuts. A better button placement would make the hardware feel more finished.
